Back in 2013, HonestlyWTF introduced me to the concept of double exposure photography, via the incredible works of Oriol Angrill Jordà. In Jordà’s series blendscapes, he combines watercolour, acrylic, coloured pencil and graphite to create mesmerizing portraits that perfectly mimic the style photography. Recently, I revisited Jordà’s work to use as inspiration for my visual arts class at school, inspiring this piece along the way:
Although the final piece simply does not compare to Jordà’s masterful combination of hyper realistic sketches and perfectly placed paint (goals, amirite), experimenting with different media offers a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with a medium, experiment with techniques, and figure out what you can do to tie different components together into one visually appealing image.
Our environment can greatly affect how we feel and perform our daily tasks. Sometimes our surroundings can feel dull, falling behind our current passions, pursuits and lacking inspiration.
Giving your space- whether that’s your bedroom, study or living room- a revamp to supply good vibes and healthy inspiration is soothing for the soul (well, once it’s done, anyway).
It all starts with a good foundation. Where your furniture is placed determines the accessibility and available uses for that room. For example, my double bed was taking up 50% of my small Singapore apartment bedroom, so getting a smaller bed opened up the space, allowing me to now practice dance and workout in my room, actually encouraging me to exercise. The newfound open-ness of the space also makes my mind feel free-er, like there’s more room to breathe.
Here are three steps to get the foundation of your room just right:
I’m all for paying attention in class, but if my in-class interest is ever beginning to waver, you better hope there isn’t a pen in my hand or else someone’s ’bout to break out the doodles up in this bitch.
Here are a few of my best moments in spontaneous art (and poorest moments classroom performance) from the past year!
We all know what it’s like to wake up craving a quick, cosy, nutritious and yummy breakfast while being too tired (and lazy) to make pancakes, fry an egg or even put bread in the toaster. On those days, I do one of three things:
- Eat Weet-Bix Bites out of the box,
- Chuck granola, frozen fruit and milk into a bowl, or
- Go back to bed.
no, I’m not going to write a post about my adventures waking up and immediately resuming my slumber.
The combo of crunchy granola, ice cold milk, and the flavour bursts/ice cubes that are frozen fruits is a healthy and delicious meal/snack that can be put together by simply dumping everything into a bowl and enjoying. This fast and filling breakfast is perfect for both a calm morning on the couch with a book, and a hectic morning trying to rush out the door.
Christmas has passed and now there is a new event on everybody’s minds. New Years. Say goodbye to all the embarrassing moments of 2014 and let’s hope for a much better year. 2015 is when you will go to the gym everyday and quit junk food for good. Psht. We all know that is never going to happen, well for me at least. This year, unlike any other year, my New Years resolutions are going to be realistic, simple, and minimal. After all, lots of small steps amounts to a big step right?
